My Watershed Moment
When you look up the definition of the idiom “Watershed Moment” you discover that
“A watershed moment is a turning point, the exact moment that changes the direction of an activity or situation. A watershed moment is a dividing point, from which things will never be the same. It is considered momentous, though a watershed moment is often recognized in hindsight.”
So I was surprised to realize that I was knee deep in a watershed moment and it was happening right now. No Hindsight necessary. At the beginning of the summer I began to find myself interested with the idea of making my collages into 3D paper sculptures. I had thought of this but had not been able to decide to do the work involved with such a large change in my style. As I began to travel this new road I discovered there were many many obstacles and distractions. I was basically making something our of nothing. There were no patterns or plans for me to follow. I took several wrong turns, actually, I didn’t even know if they were wrong turns or right ones.
What I soon discovered was that this new process allowed me a new freedom- I did not have to fit my work into a frame. I could go wild and have all sorts of long and crazy grasses.
From my tentative and fitful beginnings I have come along way. Recently I discovered the wonders of corrugated cardboard and that led me to “dumpster diving”. I have always been an active recycler but now I take the extra time to check out the recycle bin for specialized cardboard.
