Decisions, Decisions

At the beginning of the summer I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a week doing unencumbered art with several art friends in West Virginia. I had a great time and “stumbled” upon a very different technique for my work. Using a synthetic watercolor paper for the first time, I found myself able to create some very wonderful and unique pieces. It was a “magical” moment for me. Looking back, I wonder if the high West Virginia humidity also played a part in my unique new creations.

These pieces took my by surprise and wonder. I mistakenly thought I knew what to do with them and began to try to work them into collaged pieces. It soon became evident to me that I was on the wrong track. These pieces required something very different. I soon realized that I would have to approach them slowly and mindfully and simply spend time with these new pieces. I would simply have to “breath their air”. As I did that, I discovered that I had to enter into a type of relationship with them before I would actually know what to “do” with their unique characteristics.
